A draft Data Protection Bill was developed by the Office of the Attorney General in 2003 as part of a legislative package on Electronic Commerce. This was drafted on recommendation of the National E-Commerce Policy Committee. Subsequently, the government created fastforward, the National Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Strategy for Trinidad and Tobago. Committed to harnessing the potential of ICTs as a major catalyst for growth, the Government decided to revisit the legislation to ensure alignment with national development policy.
